This was one of the most oldest plebeijan consular families of the Roman republic. From c.120 bc untill the end of the century Metelli practically dominated the Roman politics, with their great number of active politicians. The family table shows who were among this great generation of the Metelli, and what were their marital connections to other families. Unfortunately the wifes of the Metelli in this time are not knows, at least to me. Notice that one metella was married to Servilius Vatia, and their son was one of the most important politicians in Rome. Also one metella was married to Licinius Lucullus, and both their sons became consuls and political leaders of Rome. Marcus Aemilius Scaurus mentioned in the table was the most important ally of the Metelli, and the most powerful politician in his own time.
